Friction and Wear Coatings
  • Today's coatings have been developed for a dual purpose:
    • Solid lubricant to be used with or without lubricant
    • Tailored heat transfer
Description:
  • Coating is applied by spraying, dipping, or brushing.
  • Thickness range of 0.001 in. to 0.020 in.
  • Friction coefficient dry µf <0.12, dry wear rate <0.1gm/hr
  • Coating in cylinder bore yields 6.5% improvement BSFC
  • Can be applied to most metallic substrates

Thermal Barrier Coatings (TBC's)
The development of thermal barrier coating (TBC) technology as adapted to the modern day diesel engine reached its peak in the mid 1980’s. Since our inception in 1984, Adiabatics Technologies, with the support of U.S. Army TACOM, has played a key role to promote the development of the LHR diesel engine.

TBC Based Polymers
Recent advances in polymer technology have increased the capabilities of polymers to withstand higher temperatures. Because polymer TBCs have increasingly higher temperature capabilities, they are finding more uses in today’s advanced technology fields. These polymers have the capability to bond to a wide range of substrates. In addition the silicone polymers we chose to investigate have a high thermal expansion coefficient and can remain bonded to substrates because of their flexibility over a wide temperature range.
